RANI GUL BEGUM
Gul Begum was a prostitute of Amritsar. Maharaji Ranjit Singh married
her in 1831. Gul Begum had her palace inside Mochi Gate which was known
as “Haveli Gull Begum”. She laid out a garden in Miani Sahib
which was known as Bagh Gul Begum. Ranjit Singh died in 1839, eight years
after her marriage. On the annexation of the Punjab by the British shw
was allowed a pension. She died in 1865. Her tomb is in Miani Sahib in
the wing called “Bagh Gul Begum”. The garden has now disappeared.
